Stephen Zunes lays it out in this article:
The election of a Democratic majority in the House and Senate is unlikely to result in any serious challenge to the Bush administration’s support for Israeli attacks against the civilian populations of its Arab neighbors and the Israeli government’s ongoing violations of international humanitarian law.
There's an episode of Star Trek (TNG) where all the top level commanders of Star Fleet get infected by this alien parasite that takes over their minds and hence their being and then attempts to subjugate the Federation from the inside out. Picard manages to infiltrate the upper command echelons and blows away what were once his command officers but are now zombies under control of alien leeches. Sorry to get all nerdy, but sometimes this is how I feel about our government (and guess who would play the roll of Picard). It's as if an alien parasite (the racist and vile meme of Zionism) has infiltrated the minds of everyone from the Oval Office through the Capitol Dome and beyond, forcing our government to do Israel's bidding with no regard towards our own interests. This theory would explain why we invaded Iraq, and also why we continue to support Israel's naked aggression against Arabs, even going so far as to veto every resolution of condemnation against Israeli war crimes in the UN, claiming they are "not balanced". If anything is not balanced it's the collective mind of this disgrace of a government of ours that has only grown closer to Israeli policy as it has become ever more aggressive and violent.
This might just seem like a rant (and it is) but the net effect is the continuation of a failed foreign policy in the Middle East that blindly and illogically supports one side of a conflict that we helped ignite by allowing the creation of the fiction called Israel. Hence, the answer to the pathetic question, "Why do they hate us?", the answer slapping you in the face everytime an Arab baby killed by an Israeli bullet paid for with American taxpayer dollars is buried.
With one more life callously extinguished: one more brother, sister, cousin, aunt lost through indifferent, inhumane, incomprehensible injustice; one more affront to human dignity: one more intolerable act that feeds into the sorrow, hopelessness, hatred and rage that grows, slowly, silently, with grim determination, until one day it simply becomes too much to humanly bear, and the inevitable pall of vengeance, Biblical vengeance, is visited upon the wicked.
I'm just a prophet.
